Biking in San Francisco

Bike the Bridge

We highly recommend Blazing Saddles and Unlimited Bikes for Bike the Bridge and e-bike rentals.

You can book guided tours and bike experiences, or you can simply rent bikes for a few hours a day, without a guide. We like Blazing Saddles, a long-time San Francisco favorite, because they have several locations around the City.

We also like Unlimited Bikes, especially because they offer bike rentals in Golden Gate Park — a great place to bike with kids.

Biking Safety & Routes

  • Bike to Bridge with Kids

The two-hour ride includes a fairly strenuous incline to the bridge, and the bike path ends on the Marin County side; this means riding with traffic. This may not be appropriate for young kids. Advice here.

  • Biking with Tykes

Crissy Field is a great place for a bike ride and a picnic with the kids. Another idea: Take a ferry to Angel Island and rent bikes. There are no cars! More ideas

  • Bike Routes

San Francisco is a very bike-friendly city — and a bike is much easier to park than a car! Check out the SFMTA bike map for routes, as well as this bike map for the Presidio (a great place to explore on bikes!)
